A.1 I wanted a challenge, I wanted depth, I wanted more out of my Fantasy Football experience. Thus in 2013 I created Legion Dynasty League. That was my first league to be the commissioner over. It is a 16 team PPR salary cap league. It was/is my attempt to find active owners that love the game as much as I do. From that point I wanted even more and I came across a league that was starting up called Thug Life Football. They hosted a couple weekly radio shows where they discussed the league, analyzed teams, had owners come on as guest speakers, etc. They also put out a weekly Ezine looking at the league and Fantasy Football as a whole. I found these concepts to be cutting edge and a great way to get owners to be active. Problem was that the league wasn't set up in time for the season to start and was completely unorganized. I backed out when given the opportunity due to not wanting to put my money up on something that wasn't quite ready. I believe they have a 18 team league this year and I am sure it will turn out great, the commish was dedicated but I think just didn't have enough time prior to season start to really hammer out all the necessary details. That league did inspire me to start work on Legion 2.0 way before the 2014 season, which brings us to the now. Legion 2.0 will hopefully be the most intense, interactive, and fun Dynasty League to date.
A.2 Legion 2.0 is 85% Fantasy Football and 15% RPG elements. RPG being Role Playing Game. Before you think I am going all D&D on you, well, I'm not. The RPG element will relate to you as an owner, the decisions you make, and how good your team is. This league will implement a Owner prestige system that will help you sign Free Agents at a discount compared to other league owners who haven't built up as many prestige points as you. That will be broken down more in the Prestige System thread. I am hoping it adds a whole new dynamic to Fantasy Football. The second part of the RPG experience will be the league voting on various titles for teams and owners. For example at the end of the season we will have league wide votes for owner of the year, Personnel Genius (owner voted to make the best moves), Mr. Personality (owner voted to be friendliest/most active on boards/trade talks, etc, and various other categories we will vote on. Each of these categories/awards will come with certain bonuses and possibly penalties for recruiting Free Agents and dealing with Hold Outs. The last part of the RPG element is that we will be drafting real life coaches to our team. This will affect your team in two ways: 1.) A coach winning in real life on Sunday gives you 5 pts, a loss gives you -5. 2.) Depending on your coaches defensive tendency (3-4 or 4-3) you will get discounts on IDP players that play those systems in real life during Free Agency. All of that combined should keep everyone involved, active, and talking during the season and off-season.
There will also be some pretty new ideas when it comes to Salaries and players. Holdouts will occur based on previous years stats. This will be detailed more in the Tiered Player system. Teams will have the ability to sign Practice Squad players from other teams (just like in real life).
All of that along with 16 owners, $100 buy ins, lots of ways to win money, a customized MFL (My Fantasy League) site, and hopefully a bi-weekly Ezine interviewing owners, breaking down matchups and fantasy teams, as well as real life player evaluations should make for a dynamic and completely unique fantasy experience.
A.3 As for me, this will be my second foray into commissioning a league. The first being the aforementioned Legion Dynasty. I'm a Texan by birth and currently live in Austin, TX. I'm a brewer at Austin Beerworks and love me some good food, music, and football. I'm a super dedicated commissioner and fantasy football player as should be evident by the grand scope of this league.
