E.1 League Alignment
Legion 2.0 will be composed of 16 teams. There will be 4 Divisions. These four divisions will be broken down into 2 conferences: Legions and Dynasties. Both conferences will have the Elite and Rising divisions.
a. Team Names
All owners must submit their team names once payment is recieved. All teams must have a location (city/state/area) and a nickname. For Example Chicago Trainwrecks or Florida Aces. This is for simplicity for a our site designers and for uniformity.
E.2 Realignment
Teams will realign within their conference based on standings at the end of each year. The two division winners and other two playoff qualifiers will be in the Elite division. The bottom four records will be in the Rising division. This will keep some parity amongst the league as the top teams will have to play each other twice during the season.
After 3 years we will evaluate if teams need to change conferences, if we want to expand to 20/24 teams etc.
E.3 Regular Season
The regular season schedule will consist of each division playing their division opponents twice (6 games), 4 in conference games, and 3 out of conference games.
E.4 Playoffs
The playoffs will start in week 14 with 8 teams qualifying. Seeding will be set with the Division winner with the best record playing the playoff qualifying team with the worst record. The division winner with the 2nd best record playing the 7th worst playoff record and so on. Winning your division guarantees you a #1-#4 seed regardless of whether your record was better than a playoff qualifying team that didn't win their division. Week 15 will be the final four and week 16 will be the championship game. The 3rd and 4th place teams will be determined by who scored more points in week 15 (losing team to score the most gets third place and the other fourth place).
Playoff qualifications will be: 4 Division winners, 4 wildcards (2 from each conference based on best record).
E.5 Playoff Home Field Advantage
Need suggestions on a fair way to do this or get rid of it all-together.
E.6 Losers Bracket
Each season we will have a "Losers Bracket" during our Playoffs. A lot of times you see these brackets determine who gets the first pick. I find that contradictory as the worst team should get the first pick not the best team of the non-playoff teams. So the losers bracket will play for a paltry $10 dollar prize as well as the 3.17 rookie pick in the upcoming draft. Its a small prize but hopefully gives you something to do while not in the playoffs.
The bracket will be set up the same as the regular playoffs. The #1 seed, best of the worst, will play the #8 seed. 2 vs. 7 and so on.
Beginning in week 14 the losers bracket will start. The 8 teams with the worst records will be competing for the prize money ($10). Although this prize money will not be available until the second season due to start up costs on site design.
Week 14 - 8 Teams
Week 15 - 4 Teams
Week 16 - Losers Championship.
